Bobby Friction

Bobby Friction presents The Official Asian Download Chart on the BBC Asian Network on Saturday afternoons 3pm - 6pm and also the 'Friction' show, Monday - Thursday at 10pm, where he showcases the best new Asian talent from BBC Introducing throughout the week.

He joined the BBC in 2002 co-presenting with Nihal on BBC Radio 1 on the Sony Gold award winning 'Bobby Friction & Nihal presents' - and joined the BBC Asian Network in 2005 presenting the station's Saturday afternoon 'Album Chart Show', before moving to 'The Mix', on Sunday afternoons.

Born in West London, Bobby is a hugely influential figure on the Asian club scene and a sought after broadcaster with wide appeal to Asian youth. He won his 2nd Gold Sony award in 2005 for his BBC documentary on the Elections and the BNP in Burnley called 'Vote Friction', and completed a hat trick after winning his 3rd Sony Gold in 2007 for his 'Friction' show on the BBC Asian Network.

Over the years Bobby has represented British Asian sound as a DJ all over the world and has built an international reputation as a genre mixing turntabilist from Asia to the US, and from the Middle East to the whole of Europe. He is a recognised specialist in British Asian music and Desi Beats worldwide - but is first and foremost, and will always be, a massive fan of music.

BBC Introducing is a multi-platform initiative across BBC Radio 1, 6Music, 1Xtra, the Asian Network, Switch, over 35 BBC Local Radio stations and at bbc.co.uk/introducing - all working together to provide an internal network dedicated to showcasing the hottest new talent from across the UK. Having launched at Glastonbury in 2007, The BBC Introducing Stage is now present at key UK music festivals throughout the year, including Glastonbury, T in the Park and Reading and Leeds. Musicians can upload their music at bbc.co.uk/introducing for the possible opportunity of being broadcast on BBC Radio, which could lead to a slot on one of the BBC Introducing stages. By supporting new music, over 500 bands have been showcased on a 'BBC Introducing' festival stage since it began.

bbc.co.uk/introducing, also offers a hub of practical advice and information for new artists wanting to take the next step in the industry. It includes over 100 videos featuring established and upcoming artists, BBC talent, industry experts including agents and managers, publishers and promoters.

Foji

Foji is a Birmingham based Punjabi singer, writer and producer. First rising to fame in 2010 with hits such as Dafa Hoja and Bruah, Foji has continued with a number of successful releases including Pumbeeri & is fast becoming a massive worldwide name in the Bhangra music scene.  Known for his unique videos & traditional dance background, he brillantly manages to marry all the different styles of Punjabi music & is promising a high octane live show.

Preeya Kalidas feat. Special Guests

Preeya needs no introduction as one of Britains most recognizable Asian actresses.  She played Amira in Eastenders for the last couple of years as well as major roles in films like Four Lion's.  After leaving Eastenders she started her solo career with single release Shimmy last year as well as big collabartions with big names in the urbanm scene like Skepta & Wretch 32.  At Mela this year she promises an all singing, all dancing show with some very special guests joining her on stage. Hmmm, we wonder who they will be....

Junai Kaden feat. Mumzy Stranger

Junai Kaden is a Pakistani heritage singer, songwriter fresh to the music scene & Mumzy Stranger's very own prodigy. Born and raised in Essex, Junai first begun singing since the age of 14. In March 2010, Junai Kaden put in an application to the Rishi Rich Academy where Tiffin Beats Records spotted the young talent & introduced him to Mumzy Stranger. After hearing Junai's breath taking vocals, Mumzy decided he wanted to take him on under his own wings to showcase Junai to the world via Mumzy's very own original production.  They both promise a special performance with a fully live band.

Shizzio

Shizzio has been on the scene for a couple of years now mashing up everything from hardcore grime to full on Desi sounds, & as a rapper mixing socio-political comment with comedy. A larger than life character he has risen from being played by a few select DJ's to now being the one Desi MC that most people recognise. Over the last year his career has really taken off & his fan base are probably the loudest out there in the Desi rap scene, and this years performance is kind of a homecoming for him - as he promises to tear off the roof whilst breaking a few hearts.

The Truth

New Desi Rap talent comes in the form of The Truth. A rapper from London with his own live band, he's only been around for a very short time but already making a BIG noise. They come to the London Mela having blown away Glastonbury festival with a live performance many said was their highlight of that weekend. Expect a tight musical experience with a rapper who's on point in every regard. Not to be missed.

Garry Sandhu

Garry was born and brought up in India & started his singing life learning Religious forms of music & vocals. Its only since he moved to the UK that his career has really started, and in under 12 months he's gone from being someone that nobody knew about, to being an obsession for many - especially of the female variety. His big tracks Mein Ne Peenda & Sahan To Pyariya will definately get an airing as well some new material. Calm down ladies!

Sam Khan

Sam is a 7 Times MC Battle Champion at The Jump Off & quite literally eats, lives and breathes Hip Hop. His concious raps about his life in London, as well as the inner workings of his mind have started to build a large fanbase which take his every word very seriously. He's the kind of rapper who blurs the line between bars & poetry and has been a huge hit whenever he's been played on radio. Expect to see a performanace influenced by his days on the rap circuit as well as by his heritage & the streets & sounds of London.
