The family area – inspired by young people.
Young people working with Hounslow’s Youth Service and the award winning Voice Youth Project have created this year’s Magic Mela. Their bright ideas have been encouraged and supported by professional artists from acclaimed outdoor arts company Emergency Exit Arts and the London Mela’s artistic team. Together they have conjured up an enchanting space for all the family to enjoy, with storytelling, arts and crafts, games, music making and all sorts of awesome characters. Whether you are very young or young at heart you can get involved and active with dance demonstrations and circus skills workshops or marvel at the talents of traditional and contemporary performers on the Magic Mela’s Youth and Community stage.
Some of the acts performing:
Aeisha India is an 18 year old artist/singer/songwriter/producer from London. She specialises in dance/electro music and aims to please audiences with shorty and catchy hooks which they can sing along to. She has been working professionally as a freelance artist/producer for 2 years and been performing all over Harrow.
JAZBA Dance Troupe are a London based dance team specialising in Bollywood and Bhangra. The team is comprised of experienced choreographers and dancers from a variety of dance backgrounds who together fuse their styles to create a dynamic medley.
Jay Kumar is a renowned Choreographer and Dance Entertainer that has been an integral part of the Community Stage at the London Mela for 8 years. His Interactive dance sessions engages and inspires people of all abilities to join in his fun bollywood dance routines. Jay is currently working with “Jai Ho” Choreographer Longinus Fernandes in a spectacular Bollywood Musical to tour UK from Spring 2014.
DanceAsia is Jay Kumar’s professional dance troupe that perform dynamic Bollywood Dances at many high profile events across the UK and abroad.
Nisha Halai Making her debut at the London Mela, Actonian-Ealingite Nisha of Subsonic Routes, performs solo songs recorded by “The Jolly Good Bollywood Band”, a fast-emerging retro-urban East London collective. Their music takes audiences on a journey of Vintage Bollywood music from the 40s to the late 80s, focusing on tunes that have been fused with jazz, swing, rock and roll, funk and Disco. Nisha’s vocal versatility and uninhibited freedom of movement, inspires a complete presence in her audiences, generating a sense of fun, all round”.

PLUS… Hounslow Library Service: Magic of India: Find out more about your local libraries and the wealth on offer there, from storytelling to craft activities for the young or the young at heart. South Asian education specialists Magic of India will be offering a range of activities throughout the day.
1pm – Art – Draw like a Great Indian Artist – (Raza, Jamuni Roy etc) – In a burst of audio visuals learn about the Great Artists of India. In this amazing workshop you will learn to draw a painting like one of our Inspiring Artists. All materials will be provided places are limited in 10 Groups of 10. Please reserve your place in advance.
2pm – Yogabolly Workshop (1) – This workshop offers a combination of stretching, centring Yoga and upbeat fun Dancing for children and adults together for 45 minutes so remember to put on your dancing shoes and join us.
3pm – Story telling – The fascinating stories Indian Gods and Goddesses’ – We will explore the gods from the Hindu mythology. One of a reasons for the Gods of Hindu mythology was to create a respect for the elements arounds us like Fire, Light, Water, and Earth; to understand the relationships we have with people around us like parents, teachers, siblings, partners etc. There are many stories that express this with much humour, suspense, thriller and drama. This session is suitable for children and adults alike. ·

5pm – Heroes of India Stories and visionary Kings & Revolutionaries – learn about the rich contributions that came from the invasions of the British, French, Portugese, Moghuls. Legacies that India still thrives upon. The visionary Akbar where music and dance thrived in India. Poets like Tagore & Swami Vivek Anand; The Great Revolutionaries of India like Subash Chandrabose.
